Welcome to East Ilsley, Berkshire, U.K.

The village of East Ilsley, which can be traced back to the Domesday Book, is situated in the North Wessex Downs, in Berkshire, England in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The village was historically noted for its great Sheep Fairs, and more recently for its horse-racing connections.

This site, which is devoted to the history of the village of East Ilsley, its environs and its inhabitants, is maintained by the East Ilsley Local History Society.  For current news on what is going on in the society and information on future events, please follow this link (next Open Day is 6 Oct 2014).

The Society is dedicated to preserving East Ilsley's heritage (village records, documents, photographs, maps, etc.), researching aspects of village life and history, then making results and archive material available for the benefit of anyone with an interest in the village.

Membership is open to all, for a small subscription (currently 3.00 per household).  Members  receive a periodic newsletter and are also able to participate in the Research Group.  If you are interested in becoming a member and/ or undertaking research into the history of East Ilsley or related topics, then please follow this link.

There is a Members Area on this web site, which provides access to additional information for members only. A new addition to this area is a full transcript of the 1911 census for the village .
